CONDUCTING WITH PHILIP HARPER - 'AT THE SHARP END'
A Conducting workshop with Philip Harper, including Cory Band rehearsal Wednesday 4th September 2019, 10.30am - 10.15pm Cory Bandroom, Park Rd, Treorchy CF42 6NB This is an opportunity to study for one day with Philip Harper, Musical Director of the Cory Band, currently the most consistent contesting band in the world. Philip will talk about conducting and rehearsal techniques in general, as well as giving a specific insight into Dynasty by Peter Graham, the test-piece for the 2019 British Open (for this reason, this event is not open to other competing bandspeople, sorry!) The workshop will take place three days before the British Open and will afford an opportunity for participants to watch Philip rehearsing the Cory Band in intensive preparation for the contest in Birmingham’s Symphony Hall on 7th September. SCHEDULE 10:30am Introduction & the Basics of Conducting, including Baton Technique 12:30pm Lunch (provided) 1:15pm Rehearsal Technique 3:00pm Break 3:15pm Analysis and rehearsal preparation of Dynasty by Peter Graham (test-piece for the 2019 British Open competition) 5:15pm Dinner (fish and chips from the famous local ‘A Fish Called Rhondda’) 7:30pm Observe Cory Band rehearsal 9:30pm Rehearsal ends 9:45pm Summary and feedback 10:15pm approx. End The cost of this experience is £150 per person, which will include study materials, lunch and dinner, and places will be offered on a first come first served basis.
